Bananain’s first offline "Core Store" concept space in Shanghai’s West Bund has officially opened. Its unique spatial design vividly interprets the brand’s philosophy of “Sensory Science,” exploring a more inclusive and forward-thinking sensory utopia. The entrance of the store extends from the building’s exterior, where the circular driveway has been ingeniously transformed into a covered public station, inspired by the stations in Zurich. The entire project fully embodies a creative brand spirit, reflecting a holistic approach that spans from exterior to interior, from architecture to signage, and from spatial design to user experience.

bespoke. has once again collaborated with RoarcRenew to create an inspiring and innovative space in West Bund, redefining the entrance of Bananain’s brand space — The circular driveway has been transformed into a covered public station structure, the LED screen structure wraps around the entire building, and a series of cables has been pulled between the main columns to suspend Bananain’s branded signage boxes.

How does bespoke. respond to the "entry experience" innovation of the Bananain concept space?

1 ⁄ 轻盈感
Lightweight

The entrance of this concept store features a visually striking and innovative installation that interprets ultimate simplicity through a "lightweight structure." The new structural language rises gracefully at the entrance, resembling open arms—a symbol of welcome and inclusiveness that echoes the spirit of openness championed by West Bund.

Structural Response Under Wind Loading

The entrance of this concept store presents an innovative and visually compelling design. The team at RoarcRenew strategically set the commercial entry further back, allowing the circular driveway and the three-dimensional public station structure to take center stage. As a landmark feature, the design offers not only space for brief stops but also a distinctive visual and spatial experience.

As the store is located toward the back and not immediately visible to passersby, the station-like structure functions more as a visual anchor. It’s designed to be seen from multiple angles — from the street, across the mall, and nearly any direction — effectively drawing attention and guiding people toward the brand space.

The initial structural scheme was relatively conservative, compromising the spatial purity and sense of openness, and falling short of fully reflecting Bananain’s brand spirit — one that embraces breaking conventions and striving for bold, innovative design. When bespoke. joined the project, in-depth discussions with both BANANA IN and the RoarcRenew team led to a profound understanding of the brand’s vision for future spatial experiences. We proposed a design concept entirely different from traditional solutions, the layout of the choice of structure system as well as the structural components has been thought and optimized to disappear and enhance the sensation of flying structure.

Ingenuity

Through a series of structural design innovations, the circular station installation makes all structural components as visually unobtrusive as possible, enhancing the sense of spatial openness. Every detail has been carefully considered, allowing us to ultimately deliver a work of creativity.

COLLABORATION

From initial design to structural optimization and fabrication, every step carried the collective effort of all teams involved, guiding the project closer to its ideal form.

During the production process, we visited the factory multiple times with the architects, engaging in deep discussions with the manufacturers. We continuously adjusted the details and repeatedly refined the design on-site, all in pursuit of creating more exquisite components and achieving the ideal presentation.

The entire process brought together a group of scientists, engineers, designers, and creatives who collaborated with the client to rethink product design, ultimately delivering a cohesive work that resonates with the brand’s spirit. As the structural consultant for this iconic entrance, bespoke. fully leveraged its innovative thinking and professional expertise in structural design. We are delighted to once again join forces with RoarcRenew in boldly exploring new possibilities within an urban renewal project.
